Fire Safety Regulations for Carlisle Businesses
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO), every Carlisle business with employees or public access must carry out a fire risk assessment and ensure adequate fire safety training is in place. The “responsible person” — typically the business owner, manager, or employer — is legally accountable for compliance.
This applies to a wide range of Carlisle premises, including offices and retail units along English Street and Botchergate, warehouses and distribution centres on Kingmoor Park and Durranhill industrial estates, hotels and guest houses serving visitors to Carlisle Castle and the Cathedral, care homes and supported living facilities across the Carlisle district, and restaurants, pubs, and takeaways throughout the city centre. Non-compliance can result in enforcement action from Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, including prohibition notices and, in serious cases, prosecution. Our training ensures your Carlisle business stays on the right side of the law.
Carlisle’s heritage buildings — many found around the Castle and Cathedral quarter — often present particular fire safety challenges, including limited escape routes and older electrical systems. If your business operates from a listed or older building, fire warden training is especially important.
How to Reach Our Training Centre from Carlisle
Getting to our Penrith training centre from Carlisle is simple. Head south on the M6 from junction 43 (Carlisle South) and follow the motorway for approximately 18 miles to junction 40 (Penrith). At the roundabout, take the A66 east towards Appleby. Redhills Business Park is signposted on your left within half a mile — we are in Unit 4b. The entire journey takes around 30 minutes in normal traffic.
There is free parking directly outside our training centre, so there is no need to worry about city centre parking charges. If you prefer public transport, regular train services run between Carlisle and Penrith on the West Coast Main Line, with a journey time of around 20 minutes. Our centre is a short taxi ride from Penrith station.
