Cumbria Fire & Safety Training delivers accredited fire safety, first aid, and workplace training to businesses throughout Kendal and the South Lakeland district. Our training centre in Penrith is only 25 minutes north via the M6, making it easy for Kendal employers to access high-quality, nationally recognised courses. We also deliver training on-site at your Kendal premises — whether that is a boutique hotel near the river, a production facility on Mintsfeet, or a retail outlet on Stricklandgate.
Courses Available for Kendal Businesses
Kendal sits at the gateway to the Lake District, and its economy reflects that unique position — a blend of tourism, manufacturing, retail, and food production. We offer courses matched to all of these sectors:
- Fire Warden Training — Equip your designated fire wardens with the knowledge to prevent fires, manage evacuations, and use firefighting equipment. Essential for Kendal’s hotels, guest houses, and large retail premises.
- Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) — This one-day HSE-compliant course is vital for Kendal manufacturers on Mintsfeet industrial estate and businesses with physical or outdoor work environments.
- Fire Safety Awareness — A concise course giving every employee a working knowledge of fire risks and safe evacuation. Well suited to Kendal’s busy hospitality venues and tourism attractions.
- Manual Handling Training — Practical training to reduce musculoskeletal injuries. Highly relevant for Kendal’s warehouse, manufacturing, and care sector workers.
- Food Safety in Catering — Level 2 food hygiene certification for chefs, kitchen porters, and catering staff. A natural fit for Kendal’s restaurants, tea rooms, and the many food businesses that trade on the town’s culinary reputation.
We run additional courses in leadership and management (ILM accredited), COSHH, working at height, and more. See our upcoming courses page for the latest schedule.

Fire Safety Regulations for Kendal Businesses
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires every employer and business owner in Kendal to assess fire risks, implement preventive measures, and ensure staff receive appropriate fire safety training. Failure to comply can lead to enforcement notices or prosecution by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.
For Kendal businesses, this has particular relevance across several key sectors. The town’s many hotels, B&Bs, and holiday lets must ensure guests can evacuate safely — sleeping accommodation brings additional responsibilities under the RRO. Retailers on Stricklandgate and in the Westmorland Shopping Centre need trained fire wardens to manage evacuation in busy public areas. Production and warehouse businesses on the Mintsfeet estate handle flammable materials, operate machinery, and store stock in ways that demand robust fire prevention measures.
Kendal also has a proud tradition of food manufacturing — most famously Kendal Mintcake — and food production premises carry specific fire and safety risks around cooking processes, packaging materials, and chemical storage. Our courses address these risks directly.
How to Reach Our Training Centre from Kendal
From Kendal, join the M6 northbound at junction 36 and continue for approximately 22 miles to junction 40 (Penrith). At the roundabout, take the A66 heading east towards Appleby. Redhills Business Park is signposted on the left within half a mile — our training centre is Unit 4b. The drive takes around 25 minutes in normal conditions.
Free parking is available directly outside our building, so there is no need to factor in parking costs or time spent searching for a space. For those coming by train, Penrith station is served by regular West Coast Main Line services from Oxenholme (the Lake District station near Kendal), with a journey time of about 30 minutes. A short taxi ride from Penrith station will bring you to our door.
